Why was Jesus Killed?

And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice,  he gave up his spirit, Mt 27:50 I was asked the question Easter weekend, "Why did they kill Jesus?"  Great question!  Especially, why would the Jews, the chosen nation of God, whom God rescued over and over again in the Old Testament lead the charge to kill Jesus?  Let's go even further, the Jews did "evil in the eyes of the LORD" over and over again throughout history.   Yet, God gifts them with Jesus Christ, their long awaited Messiah (or Savior); and they send him to his death. Why?  For starters:  deceitful hearts (Jer 17:9)  Let's take a look at some of the ways the heart, if not properly cultivated, can deceive, and in this case; lead to the death of an innocent man by crucifixion. Fear of losing their stature - Mt 21:23-27  Here is a scenario for you to ponder. You have a job.  A respectable job, one that you like and frankly gives you perks: feeds the family, good bonus, vacat...

God is funny....Devotional Day 8

"Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you."  Eph 4:32 On my facebook post, I share that Priscilla Shirer's Devotional Awaken has awakened me from a slumber and moved me from a relationship of "request" to a relationship of personal intimacy.  It really is unlike any devotional that I have done.  Priscilla said that this stemmed from her personal time with God and I can sense that.  It is unlike anything she has written before.  Her words are tender-hearted, she uses relatable stories and personal experiences to help you connect to the scripture and she has a way of asking questions to make you think; they are probing, but not accusing.  It is definitely her best book yet. Above is the scripture for Day 8; with the title of "No More Circles."  The topic was on unforgiveness.  Priscilla shared the story of a circus pony that had been relegated to walking in circles day after...

Why I love Jesus Christ....a peek into my life

"For God so love the world that he gave his one and only Son,  t hat whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."  Jn 3:16 Happy (belated) Birthday Jesus Christ!!!  Praise and glory be to our LORD and Savior!  Because Jesus, our King, came as a baby and died on a cross, sinless as our sacrifice for our sins, we are alive!  I pray that this Christmas season has been a time of celebration of this miracle and praising He who gave us the eternal gift of life!! I want to say, right off the bat, if you have yet to make a commitment to Christ I pray that today is that day for you!  May this blog, may this readership, help you any way you need to be helped, and may the LORD Jesus Christ gift me as his servant. As I sit here prepped to write thank you notes from Christmas, I am overwhelmed with joy.  Do you see this picture? We have friends in Illinois that we just treasure.  And through them, we have become friends with a wo...

Stepping off a cliff into the unknown.....sharing GOD's story

Image
Wow, it has been a while since I have done a blog.  So many things have happened.  There is time to get to that, but I am writing with purpose today.  Here we are, the Friday before Christmas, and usually, all I would be thinking about is Christ, his birth, why he came and what he did for us.  All of us.  No exceptions!  He died on the cross so the each of us could have life. Joy here on earth in troubled times and eternal life in heaven with him.  All you need to do is believe in him - know that he is your Savior! But tonight, I am writing with a troubled heart, an excited heart, a trepidatious heart...do you see any confusion there?!  You see, God, convicted me several years ago to do several tasks, and I dug my heals in and have yet to follow through.  I can give you a million reasons, but the end result is, I have sinned against my LORD.  He has asked me to do something and I have yet to obey....until now.  Luke 11:28 tells us...

Joy Found in a Golden Egg.........But Today HE Has Risen!!!

Today is such a treasured day in the life of a Christian.  Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior will conquer death and have eternal life. (Jn 1:25)  But the beauty of today is that Jesus Christ came to save everyone!  There are no exceptions, simply believe. I love to watch the kiddies hunt Easter eggs.  When I was a child, I was my momma's "baby"!  She would put on such elaborate egg hunts for me.  She would gather up cousins and the children of family friends and off we would go, usually out to a lake. We would swim, have hot dogs, eat watermelon; meanwhile, the parents would hide dozens of eggs filled with chocolate and goodies. But for my momma, this was my day.  My egg hunt.  :)  Every year, my mom would buy a golden egg and she would put something very special inside that golden egg.  Oh it varied based on my age, maybe a bracelet, a silver dollar, green money!  It was a prize to me and I was just giddy sea...

We Are Called To Love........

Today is Good Friday.  The day we recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for all.  Normally, I reflect on Good Friday but since we know that Jesus rose 3 days later to give us life, I tend to focus more on that then his death.  But this year is a somber year for me and I wanted to take some time to talk about this day in particular. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us. Every day, every day, we sin.  We lie, we covet, we commit adultery.  We gossip, we slander we......... Guys, I have been near tears all day long because our Savior died for us in hopes that we would love one another.  Be kind to one another, demonstrate patience, goodness, gentleness, be joyful, have peace among one another.......have self control (Gal 5:22-23). Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 And I don't know if it is because we feel condemned ourselves, but...
