Joy Found in a Golden Egg.........But Today HE Has Risen!!!
Today is such a treasured day in the life of a Christian. Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior will conquer death and have eternal life. (Jn 1:25) But the beauty of today is that Jesus Christ came to save everyone! There are no exceptions, simply believe.
I love to watch the kiddies hunt Easter eggs. When I was a child, I was my momma's "baby"! She would put on such elaborate egg hunts for me. She would gather up cousins and the children of family friends and off we would go, usually out to a lake. We would swim, have hot dogs, eat watermelon; meanwhile, the parents would hide dozens of eggs filled with chocolate and goodies. But for my momma, this was my day. My egg hunt. :) Every year, my mom would buy a golden egg and she would put something very special inside that golden egg. Oh it varied based on my age, maybe a bracelet, a silver dollar, green money! It was a prize to me and I was just giddy searching for it. You want to see joy on someone's face, you watch a 5 year old little girl hunting down Easter eggs, putting each one meticulously in her basket but knowing, searching, anticipating, with shear glee the moment when she will find the GOLDEN egg hidden just for her! I am not even kidding you, I get giddy even thinking about it! Thank you for such wonderful memories momma!
That joy must pale in comparison to the joy we will feel when we see our Savior. Guys, I don't know about you, but he has done so much for me. I am certain so many are hurting and have gone through a lot here on this earth, some things I cannot even fathom. I know what I have gone through and there is no way I could venture this earth without my Savior. I am so grateful! I love that song "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe.
The joy I felt as that little girl searching for my golden egg. That, I think we can grasp. We have seen it on the faces of the little ones. Perhaps, I pray, even experienced it ourselves. Seeing our Savior, WOW. That........I can only imagine.
But the kicker is, Our Savior desires for us to experience that joy every day of our lives here, on earth. He came, died and rose again so that we who choose him can have the Holy Spirit and fruit of the Holy Spirit, given to us by Jesus Christ (Jn 14:16-17). He will aid us to be joyful (Gal 5:22-23).
But it is hard, right? So how do we do that? I just thought I would offer a couple of suggestions that I have done before and/or I am doing now and I encourage others to share your thoughts.
Some of you know and love Miss Beth (Moore) and she says, stay in the word and pray! I agree. Done! Just kidding. We all know it can be hard with life so busy, what do we study.....I get it. So here are some ideas.
Pray: The model prayer that our LORD laid out commonly known as the "LORD's prayer" (Mt 6:9-13) is a great start to the day. Pray it in the am when you wake up.
Scripture: Scripture is a great way to change behavior, spend time with the LORD on a particular issue or just be in the Word. Select a few 2-5 scriptures that you can read and pray over every morning when you wake up and every night when you go to bed. Not sure which scriptures? Three effective ways that I have found to select scriptures are: 1) pray and ask God to lead you to them, 2) search a topic on the internet that you wish to pray over or effect change on (ex search: scripture humility), several will pop up. Pray and select. and 3) sign up for daily verses and use that as your guide (I use youversion - there are several out there)
Journaling: Get a notebook of any kind and write down your thoughts. Many people do this a night and a great way to start is the day's struggles, ask for God's help or leading and the day's successes give praise to God.
I will close on the special day of celebration by saying "be joyous!!" In John chapter 11 Lazarus, a friend of Jesus died. The sister's of Lazarus called for Jesus to come and not to tarry so that he could save Lazarus, but Jesus delayed his journey to ensure that Lazarus had already passed by the time he had arrived. There was a reason for this. That reason was a foreshadowing of things to come. Jesus has risen! I leave you with his words.....
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?" Jn 11:25-26
