When doubt whispers "I'm not good enough"

My bible study group is currently studying the book, A Confident Heart, by Renee Swope. We are all enjoying her candid look at our constant struggle of feeling that we don't, won't, will never......measure up. This is a lie that the accuser tells us over and over hoping that we will believe it. Well, stand tall!  We have a Savior that proves that feeling is a lie, and that is what Renee Swope is teaching us in A Confident Heart.  In chapter 6, "When Doubt Whispers, 'I'm Not Good Enough,'" she has given us some wonderful scriptures to lean on and some emboldening statements for us to use when we are feeling attacked.  

The following are excerpts from pgs 107-108, 113-114. Remember, our Savior used scripture to fight Satan; scripture is what we too shall use!!  I pray these excerpts encourage you as much as they did our group.  Have a blessed week.  :)

WHO I AM IN CHRIST

I am accepted......
John 1:12        I am God's child
John 15:15      I am a friend of Jesus Christ, as His disciple

The following would make great post-its!

  • When doubt comes against me, saying I'm not good enough, I will rely on the truth that God is for me! He says I'm fearfully and wonderfully made; all of his works are wonderful and I am one of them (Ps 139:14).
  • When doubt comes against me, saying I'm weak and all alone, I will live in the truth that God is for me! I can be strong and courageous because the Lord my God is with me. He will never leave me nor forsake me (Deut 31:6).
  • When doubt comes against me, saying I shouldn't get my hopes up because I'll only be disappointed, I will depend on the truth that God is for me! He has plans for my life that are filled with purpose and hope (Jer 29:11).
  • When doubt comes against me, saying I'm not good enough for a certain role or position, I will remember that God is for me! He says I am His masterpiece, created to be new in Christ so that I could do good things he planned long ago (Eph 2:10).
  • When doubt comes against me, saying nobody really loves me, I will hold on to the truth that God is for me!  He loves me so much that He gave His only Son to live and die for me, and He chose me to be adopted into His family (John 3:16, Eph 1:4-5).
  • When doubt comes against me, saying I can't do something because it's too hard, I will cling to the truth that God is for me! He says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phil 4:13).

    thanks for sharing Dee! sharing that you are studying" a confident heart"! the enemy actually don't whisper to me, he screams to me that I am NOT good enough! I assure you I am not in self pity. only being honest about how I feel!! like most people I battle the enemy on a daily basis!! Christ will prevail in the end of course!! my favorite scriptures that I say daily: " there is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ"and " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". god bless you all!! :-)

    does anyone else find it overwhelming when they think of God's grace. I am NOT embarrassed at all to say that at times I get teary eyed in church when I think of God's grace!!! :-)

Why was Jesus Killed?

And when Jesus cried out again in a loud voice,  he gave up his spirit, Mt 27:50 I was asked the question Easter weekend, "Why did they kill Jesus?"  Great question!  Especially, why would the Jews, the chosen nation of God, whom God rescued over and over again in the Old Testament lead the charge to kill Jesus?  Let's go even further, the Jews did "evil in the eyes of the LORD" over and over again throughout history.   Yet, God gifts them with Jesus Christ, their long awaited Messiah (or Savior); and they send him to his death.
